Eschatology (from the Greek έσχατος meaning "last" + -logy) is a part of theology and philosophy concerned with the final events in the history of the world or the ultimate destiny of human kind, commonly phrased as the end of the world.

In many religions, the end of the world is a future event prophesied in sacred texts or folklore. More broadly, eschatology may encompass related concepts such as the Messiah or Messianic Age, the afterlife, and the soul.

What everybody else has said is right, but also, "eschatological" in most latin and mediterranean culture means something that has to do with garbage or fecal matter.

The relation derives from the eschatos section of the word, which means, indeed, "end". Therefore, garbage is the end of the productive process, where feces are the end of the digestive process.

Hence, when a joke, or a situation or a phrase is tilted as "eschatological", it implies that it has to do with dirt, filthiness or, well, crap...

Certain words conceal concepts from the untrained. Whenever you see the words"esoteric" or "eschatology" or any derivatives of those two words--think of custodians of private libraries--a type of national security blog. If you read the "Celestine Prophecies" the author was preparing people that many things believed concealed would be revealed in a certain time frame.
