First thing you should know is that the best way to save energy is to find the temp you are comfortable with and leave the t-stat alone! Constantly adjusting it can causes nothing but trouble and high costs!!!! For instance, if you turn your t-stat up, say 78(or even off) when you are away from home-or at night---then when it starts to get warm and you turn it on or lower the degree setting, say to 72, the a/c has to first run to get it to 72-and then run to keep the constant temp at 72. A/C has to remove the heat and humidity as well as cool your home. You a/c will run a lot for that to happen causing high energy bills.
Your temp setting is really a matter of your personal preference as long as you keep the temp at a steady setting. A couple degrees of variance is okay though-The problem occurs when you start turning it up or down more than that.
I work for a heating and air company, and I hear a lot of complaints from people who say their a/c runs all the time. Once I start questioning them about how they have it set, how often and how much they adjust the setting or whether it's off, I find most of time, they make one of the above mistakes.

I would say around 75 degrees. You could add a ceiling or table fan to circulate air and that should cut down on cooling costs as compared to using the air conditioner alone.
Table or floor fans work very well since cold air is heavier and will settle to the floor of the room. Circulating cool air makes the environment more pleasant and tolerable.
You may also have to check how efficient you AC really is since an inefficient/old AC will add to the cooling cost.

They say 78 but I keep mine when on around 80. The higher you can stand it the better. It pulls on your ellectric bill . making it really high. Some times I just sweat and don't turn mine on till 90 out side. That way got my own sona, helps to loose weight. . I like the heat but put it wear you want. Pem

We keep ours at 82 when we're gone and 80 when we're home. It's really just to keep the humidity out of the house.
If you keep it a touch warmer and use fans you also save electricity.
With as hot as it's been lately, even setting at 82 the A/C runs more frequently that one would like.

Hey there, our energy company in GA has a commercial out right now saying that if you set your temp when you leave for the day to 76-80 degrees, you'll save about $100 a year. =)

From a Baptist Preacher... Please study all in the previous you decied if i'm flaky or no longer... The Bible teaches (via a deeper study than maximum of people who've responded have even concept approximately) there are 2 kinds of penalty for sin. there is the criminal and the ethical offense against God. The criminal offense, is that which demands a blood sacrifice. The blood sacrifice replaced into paid on Calvary, whilst Jesus, God's Son, paid on your sins, and you popular that charge at 10 years previous. You had to repent of your sins, have self belief that Jesus died on your sins and ask Him to forgive you of those sins, and the Bible says He saves you. (John 3:sixteen-18; Romans 10:9-13; Titus 3:5-6; Eph. 2:8-9) the ethical offense, is distinctive. What in case you murdered somebody? you ought to by no skill ever make it as much as there kinfolk, no count what you probably did. The regulation must be fulfilled (the criminal requirement) on your imprisonment or dying. however the ethical offense ought to by no skill be erased In 1John a million:9, the Bible says, If we confess our sins, he's easy and easily to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The only, is that He can't carry it against us lower back legally. He can no longer require a blood sacrifice of one of His own. The easy, is that he won't carry the offense against God against you, that ethical offense. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit can in basic terms be committed via a lost individual. it somewhat is to assert to the Holy Spirit, i don't have self belief in Jesus whilst he's prompting you to achieve this. as quickly as saved, you're constantly saved. that's what eternal skill. that is not your salvation that has been lost as a results of fact which you sinned all those years, it is your fellowship. you're able to desire to get with God, confess your sins, and he would be easy to forgive you. God bless...

We keep ours at about 75, and we run our ceiling fans. If you run them (I think reverse) it will circulate the air and make it cooler in the house. Although you're using energy for the fan, it is lower energy than keeping your a/c at 70 degrees. Also, even though it's nice to keep your blinds open for sunlight, that will cause your home to heat up more which makes the a/c run more to keep it cooler. You can keep your blinds open, but tilt them up so you can still have sunlight coming in, but it won't effect the temp. as much.
