Yes there are some "Emo" bands that do not focus on this, but the majority promote a message of self-destruction because of the unfair world around them. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath weren't exactly encouraging music, but they didn't preach about killing yourself or ending the pain with self-mutilation.
