After 6 brilliant months with my boyfriend, we (mutually) broke up last week, as he is due to start university in September. I suppose I just wanted to know what you lot think about it!

Maybe a little more detail would clarify, although many thanks for all the answers received so far!
He will be going to university 130 miles away from me, which isn't that far, but at the same time, it would probably be me who'd have to do most of the travelling, as he will be a poor penniless student.
The reason we have chosen to do this now, rather than later, is so that we can adjust to seeing each other in a social, rather than romantic(?) context.
Would also like to reiterate that it was mutual, although sooner than I had expected.

if you both remain as friends thats still good, who knows maybe in the future you two might hook up again.

I guess it depends how far away he is going to Uni. But long distance relationships do work, my partner and I, were togther for a year while he was based in germany in the forces.
I mean if he is not going untill september then why did you break up 2 months before he leaves? Unless you knew that it definatley wasnt going to work anymore then you did the right thing becuase you have the whole summer to find someone else.

Why, that isn't a good reason to mutuall breakup, thats the problem with you young kids and your relationships, you can't stand in the face of adversity. When a problem comes along you wnat o break up, did you think about seeing how it may work out, unless he is going a few states away, but you still never know how things may work out.

Based on the information provided... I wouldn't do anything. If they were brilliant, why break-up? Is it a long distance thing? If so, probably a smart move on your part. If not, that's weird.

There has to be more to the story. You don't just break up because he's going to university. Especially if the relationship was any good.

Find someone good for you and don't put your heart or effort in the relationship until you know he is the one for you because you probably don't want to go down that road again.

Take some time for yourself. Go out with your friends, go to movies, amusement parks, water parks. Just have fun. Then when you are having so much fun you don't think about him anymore, you are ready to start dating again.

Breaking up is hard to do. But life goes on. Put it behind you and start afresh.
