What I'm talking about is war between democratic states so discounts sponsors, wars by proxies e.g the Cold War , states that had dictators or one party states.

Yeah, the current Israeli-Hezbollah conflict is one of the latest..although we could count the Indo-Pakistani wars of the early 80's as the last major conflict, this was before Pakistan became a dictatorship..

Yes, the Argies during the Falklands were ruled by a Military Junta, thats why they invaded our islands

Gawaine, the wars between Turkey and Greece occured when both were ruled by, again, military Junta's. Many of the latter-day modern wars between European nationms were due to these leaders.
Besides, Republics are nowhere near the most common of Democratic governments. I live under a Constitutional Monarch, as do many other Commonwelath nations, but im still in a Democratic country

There aren't any democratic countries in the world. This is because true democracy is very cumbersome on a national level. Instead there are republics that hold democratic ideals.
I assume you're looking for conflicts in the 20th century. There were the Balkan wars in 1912, the Boer war between Britain and the Boers in South Africa, the Irish war for independence, the 3 wars between India and Pakistan, the war between Turkey and Greece over Cyprus, and so on.

I'm sure there have been others since, but how about the Falklands War, between UK and Argentina. From what I can find, Argentina has been a Democratic Republic for nearly 200 years.

Err.. I think Argentina was ruled by a military dictator when they invaded the Falklands (General Galtieri?).

Bizarrely, you might consider the current conflict: Israel vs Lebanon (both democracies of sorts (OK, alright, I know its Hezbollah not Lebanon as such, but they do partake in it's government).

This seems a similar proposition to the one reported by Francis Wheen in his 'Mumbo-Jumbo' book where some US politician claims that no two countries possessing McDonalds franchises have ever been to war with each other
