Whats is intelligence?
Something you are given of ,as some friends here above think?nope
Given a certain number of cerebral cells, the way our brain works depends on the way these cells work together..meaning how they transmit to each other (and receive) information.
What 'trains' and develops these connection is the intensity and frequence of their use. So , the son of a musician is more likely to develop a 'musical' ( more frequently an artistic) intelligence than others . stupid example, but to give the idea.
It works also with physical environnements..i dont want to sound racist, so pls forgive me.. the point is, our ancestors from hot continents developed their skills slower and to a lesser extent than people living in cold areas. Why? people living in cold areas had more problems to face ( not just food, but clothes, need of fire..etc), they kept using their brain more often, to face these problems..there intelligence was growing.
ciao

1. Our environment shapes our minds.
2. The environment over time caused the evolution of intelligence.
3. The 'intelligence' (laws of nature) inherent in the underlying structure of the universe caused the environment to be the way it is.
All of these are true, even though they seem opposites.
Your question is a lot like the chicken and egg question, which is itself the riddle of whether the god(s) made man or whether man made god(s)

I think it's a definite factor. All things being equal, the kid whose parents can and do feed her the right things, read to her, and put her in good schools will be smarter than the kid whose parents can't or won't do those things, no matter what they were born with. Brain connections are made in childhood, so how you raise a child makes a huge difference.

Common! If a gnat lives at a university, do you think it's going to be smarter that those living outside?
You are strictly talking genetics.
Environment can hone what you have, it can't give you what you haven't at least the potential for.
You can have all the gasoline in the world, it you don't have a car (or plane or boat) you ain't goin' no place!!!

Nature has its own innate intelligence. It knows when its getting crapped on and one better look out when it reacts to not being respected.

I think we are born with more intellegence than we have as adults---and that there are inate differences.

I suspect our environment (the situation in which we are nurtured) tends to degrade our intellegence rather than nurture it.
