the statues of gods of rival towns and keep them in their temple as subordinates. Emperors prefer to have one god. Even better, one god that is invisible, so the Emperor can represent the god. What is the religion of democracy?

Christianity was the religion of the Roman emperors. The senate stuck with the old pagan gods. When there was a triumvirate of emperors, they pushed the doctrine of the Trinity. When it was back to one Emperor again, they started to put the emphasis on Christ -man/god. Particularly images of Christ in Majesty, behind the throne where the image of Jupiter used to be, with a big cross that looks like the initial of Jesus or Jupiter. Eventually the pope took over from the emperors, and then the holy roman emperors came along too. Is there a religion of democracy? Is Christianity still strong in the states because of the role of the President?
