Don't try to get a tan. Go out in the sun for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. If you're going to be out & about for long periods of time, use sunscreen. (It doesn't last the whole time, don't worry.) You can also go out after 3:00 PM. That way, you can enjoy the sun wile minimizing the risk of burning.

Trust me on this. I am WHITE, WHITE, WHITE. (Irish, Scottish, English, German, French, Swiss, & Czech.) I have pale skin, crystal blue eyes (they're so light, they change color with my surroundings), blonde hair, freckles, & a family history. I KNOW what I'm talking about when it comes to this stuff. See, what you REALLY want (& may not realize) is to tan up WITHOUT GETTING SKIN CANCER WHEN YOU'RE OLDER.

For people like us, it takes longer to get a tan (w/o the burn). Trust me; 20 minutes a day, & after a while you'll tan up.

Peace!

if you're very light and are european [as your username insinuates] then perhaps it's not healthy for you to get a fullblown dark tan. remember, ivory skin is very classy and often looks a lot better than some tans.
i suggest that you wear sunblock, especially on areas like your face [unless you're out swimming early in the morning or late evening] to avoid getting burnt, or worse, getting skin cancer. you don't have to lie down and not move for hours to get a tan--you can get a healthy glow even if you're swimming or playing games on the beach or something. of course, you can tan places like the back of your legs in the traditional method, but staying in one place and not moving for forever causes bad burns. trust me.

U can go to Hollywood tans and get a spray tan or u can try wearing a darker colored bathing suit like brown or black bc dark colors attract sunlight.

I would recommend bananaboats suntan foam to get some fake color. otherwise limit your sunexposure, do 10 minutes each side then go inside. Keep it up until you start gettin your tan.

wear an SPF 15 and tan slowly.....when you burn you are just removing that skin and not really getting a base for your tan....you could try tanning indoors (salons) to get that base.....good luck.....
