My wife and I can't wait to get away for a while...we have a little girl who is 2 weeks old. Is it okay to go away on a trip when she's a month old? Of course we're taking her with us? Are we crazy?

A month old is a great age to take a baby on a trip. They don't move around by themselves, so you don't have to worry about her getting harmed in an unbabyproofed hotel room or relative's home.

If you're driving, you may have to be in the driver's seat the whole time while your wife sits in back next to baby so she can nurse her. She can practice before the trip so that she can do it with baby in the rear-facing car seat while sitting in her own seat belt. Then you'll only have to make occasional stops to get yourselves a little exercise, change a diaper, and change sides.

And you really *don't* need a lot of stuff, either--just plan on bringing along 2 changes of clothes per day (or plan on washing things--a sink is fine!!) and diapers. That's all it takes at this age. It's really simple!!

Everything really depends on what your plans are...if you ask another, more specific question, maybe I can give you some more tips (if you even want them!!).

That's actually a great time to travel with a baby. They sleep all the time, and don't need special foods, beyond breast milk or formula. Just don't expect to go at the same pace you did before she was born. You will need to take breaks to feed and change her (not that you didn't already know that!) Also, it's good to get her out of the car seat and let her spend some time on her tummy. Most hotels have cribs available, but I have found that they are not always someplace you would feel comfortable putting your baby. If you are driving, you can bring along a travel bassinet. Even if you are flying, you can bring one. It's just easier to bring less stuff. A front pack is also nice. You and mom can take turns carrying her, and it's much easier than lugging around a stroller. Good luck!

I think you can take a baby anywhere over 4 to 6 weeks on a trip. You just have to be prepared that the trip may not be as relaxing as you are hoping.
We are taking our daughter on her first trip and she is 5 months. I can't imagine taking her any younger, but as long as you prepare yourselves, you should be fine.

NAW, you're not crazy but I just wonder if your little woman is gonna be up to the trip? You'll need to be alot of help and make frequent stops.

Have FUN and take lots'a pics

It depends where you are going - I wouldn't take her out of the country! If you are just going out of town for a weekend or something, then sure! Call and ask her pediatrician if it is okay...I cannot imagine that it wouldn't be...you just don't want to take her out of the country as she would be exposed to things that she hasn't been vaccinated for yet. Have fun and congrats!

I took my daughter on a trip when she was a month and a half old, like everyone said , yes you do stop frequently, but it was enjoyable

You can do it. Theres just going to be a ton of stuff to pack and you'll have plenty of breaks for feeding and changing diapers. Otherwise your baby will probly sleep.
