I went to a local junior college... I got all my basics and saved lots of money. My parents didn't even charge me rent.
Everything I took transferred to the university I ended up graduating from. A good adviser will help with this.
The first couple of years after graduating from high school is a very confusing time. You want to be free but you also want to make good decisions that will lead you to a good future. It's very hard to decide at 18 what you want to do with the rest of your life when you don't feel like you even know yourself very well. Don't worry if you don't know exactly what you want to do. Take classes that interest you they will help you make decisions. Don't be afraid to change your major. You don't want to spend the rest of your life regretting a decision you made at 18.

It depends on the relationship you have with your parents. I have a wonderful one and i regret going far away my first year. I found it very hard to jump from having them there to help with anything i needed, and then being completely on my own. Try staying at home the first year but have more freedom. Maybe get a job and start paying for a few things yourself, like gas and clothes, and see how you do. Then, when you feel comfortable enough, go to school somewhere not too far. Maybe just in another city. that way, if you feel your slipping in any way, your parents are always right there. The hardest thing for me was staying concentrated when my parents werent around. It hit me all at once that i could do whatever i want when i want, and that caused my grades not to be so hot. Now, i am having to make up for the stupid mistakes of my freshman year. Like i said, it depends on your relationship with your parents, and the amount of help they provide you financially now. Good luck!

It all depends. If you have the kind of parents who will respect your independence and only visit a couple times a semester, then don't go too far away....it can be very handy to only be a "day trip" from home. That was how it worked for me, and it was great. However, my nephew went about the same distance away that I did, and his parents visited every weekend, or he came home every weekend. So he didn't get to have the college experience at all....it was more like being in high school an hour away from home. So my advice is, ask your folks if they'll give you your space. If so, stay within a couple of hours of home. It'll be cheaper than going out of state, too.

If you live on campus, you can be right down the street from where you used to live and never know it. Living on campus has its own feel.
I lived on campus at the U of A and it was like its own little world. But my parents were only a 20 minute drive away if I wanted to do laundry or eat real food. But if I didn't want to go home, that was good too.
I recommend staying close if you can live on campus.

It is all up to you and where you want to go. I just went to East Texas from Dallas, only about a 3 hour car drive. Though now I wish I had gone to another state. My sister went to Colorado (University of Colorado Denver) and after she went to law school in Virginia, she moved back to Denver because she loved it so much. It really is up to you and what you want. =)

Yes - it gives you a chance to find out who you are, what you are capable of and what you want. It gives you a new perspective on life, a change of scenery and a great opportunity to meet new people!

You use a comparative, "better". Better than what? What's the point of your question?
