Intelligence, masculinity (no metrosexuals please), take-charge.
What attracted me to my husband was his personality first, looks second.

Sense of humor and intelligence are two important things to me. Even before the looks part.
Then I check out his fingernails to get a clue to his grooming habits. If his nails are dirty I don't go with it.
I like tall men, hair color doesn't matter. Certain facial features do attract me. But if I think of which actors I'm attracted to physically, I have a wide range of "types".
Actually, you're saying that you go with women who will kiss your *&** as a mate; I actually see that to a lot of women it looks like the best looking males are attracted to women who treat them poorly, and are, for the most part, byotches..... (sorry). In other words, "nice girls" don't stand a chance unless you can treat the guy like crap.

Chemistry for sure. That's really a hard thing to define. I was completely attracted to the man I'm with now the very first time we went out. I was attracted on all levels. That attraction continues even now and it's very addictive.

Lord knows. I have yet to meet that man. Someone who just "feels" right has eluded my search so far. But I am young. I might find him sooner or later.
I think for me it would be intelligence, honor and humanity. I am quite into humanitarian issues and will need my significant other to share this with me. It would help if he is in the medical field like I am.

first it's chemistry, checking out feromons, if our genes would make a good mix.
than the look, mostly psychological predefined
both we can't really do something against
than comes the individual claim like: same intellectual niveau, humour etc
so and after this answer you can see how complicated we, women CAN be ;)

Job security, Level of education, Morals and ethics, Family values, Dating history, Health, Money Management, Assets, Debt to income ratio. As far as looks go: as long as he is clean, neat, his clothes match, and his hair is not messy thats ok. I'd prefer him to be AT LEAST my height or taller, but I could work around that.

What attracted me initially of course was his looks. My husband is very attractive. However, the qualities that made me fall in love with him, had nothing to do with looks. It was his integrity, his honesty and loyalty..his sense of humor..his independence..his ability to communicate with me...and the way he treated me..with respect..not the way you stated that men should treat women.

Well, for one thing, he isn't crude, or rude, he is a gentleman in every sense of the word, and has respect for women as companions, friends, and comfortors when thedarkside of the soul is going on. Garnet

with a crappy attitude like that, your not going to get very far in any relationship... women want honorable men, who respect them and treat them as ladies as well as equals!
