I think your question is rather harsh. If you ever played football, particularly in a defensive position you will realise that it is a heartbreaking thing to score in your own net. No one does it on purpose, usually its in an attempt to prevent a striker from the opposing side from getting into your net.

I feel sorry for all the OG players of 2006 WC - The defender from Trinidad, Italy, Paraguay. And they are certainly not idiots.

Own goals are harsh, I still remember the disbelief on the Italian players face after he tied it for the US (the only goal Buffon never saw coming and it was such a sissy ball rolling off his foot... )Petite hit it nicely in, but it is hard to defend the type of ball Schweinsteiger booted at the Portugal net..

but hey it happens, I am sure the players responsible are pretty sheepish afterwards...

Hmm. can't say, all 4 who scored own goals are all idotic!

But it is Petit in Portugal 1-3 loss to hosts Germany.

Gammara (Paraguay)'s goal wasn't his problem. It was not so idioting as others. He tried to block the free kick (off Bechkham) but the tip of his head touched and then it was a goal.

I'd have to ask myself the same question as il_caffe_mi_rende_nervosa did..do you even play or know anything about soccer?? You can't just give it up with the Italians...Please do us all a favour and go headbutt someone with your buddy Zidane and I'm sure you'll get the golden bully award!!
I don't want to offend anyone but enough is enough!!

There was no such "idiot guy." It was always a mistake. Don't be so harsh. It is easy to deflect a ball towards the wrong direction without meaning to.

of all of them, i think it was petit from portugal...dont get me wrong though, i LOVE portugal but damn, what a mistake he made. i think the problem with situations like that is that the goalie is focused on the kicker/german player and doesnt expect his team to do that....which is why the ball so easily flew into the net without ricardo being able to stop it. petit, you idiot!
