Go on line to the manufacture of your computer or mother board and check and see before you buy memory. It is down in price right now but some computers you have to install memory in matching sets or have minimums and maximums. It never hurts to check first. memory is hard to send back.

make sure to get the right kind (SDR/DDR) and be careful about static. Static can destroy memory modules. Also if you already have some memory already installed, the new ones should have the same speed as the old ones.
Turn off computer. Discharge static by touching something metallic and grounded (connected to the ground). Disconnect power outlet. Open case. Align memory with slots. Snap in memory by pushing down on both ends. Check that the locks on the sides should fit. Close case. Plug in. Boot up. Done.

dont listen to anyone of the others, ram is probally the simplest upgrade you can do on your p.c
follow these instructions
1)go to http://www.crucial.com/,and use the on-line scanner to determine your memory type
2)either buy from crucial or your local computer store, but if you go local take a print-out of your memory specs
3)before installing the ram,you must earth yourself to discharge any static you may have in your body, you can do this by touching a radiator pipe or by buying a anti-static braclet from p.c world
4) open up your p.c and locate the memory banks, they are next to the cpu,you will see them as 2 or 4 long slots, maybe blue or red.they will have white clips at either end
5) holding the memory modules by the ends(do not touch any of the chips on the module) insert it into the bank,it will only go in one way,so dont force it,keep going until the clips on the end click into place and secure the module
6)well done you have done a memory upgrade, now all you do is boot up,you may be asked at bootup to press f1 to confirm the upgrade,if so press f1
7)your p.c will now be smoother running than before and programs will run better than before
good luck

Pretty much, once you have removed the old ram you just shove it in, make sure you get it in the right way, and in the same coloured slots if you are using dual channel ram (2 sticks).
To remove the old ram push the white flaps either side of the ram stick down, then just pull it out.
Once the new ram is in remember to move the flaps back into place.

yes, it is very straight forward. you need to first check which RAM goes with your computer (SD, DDR ..) for this check your computer spec.
buy the RAM from a comp. shop and then be carefull of the cut on the RAM. when you insert the RAM in the slot check the cuts are same on both the ends on RAM and the slot.

your question is too general. i dont know if u want to instal ram (software) or RAM (physical Ram). if you want to instal physical ram, u must take a look at it, manufacturer, model and check if it is relevant with ur computer and the previous ram or not. if they are matched, u can instal it straight forward, if not dont.
if you want to install ram software in order to increase computer speed, dont hesitate to do it

pretty much, just figure out your RAM slot type
If you have a Dell, then you can pretty easily search on Dell for upgrade parts
It should tell you your RAM slot type
but never buy from Dell/ HP/ Compaq w/e
i looked up some RAM for my sister, and i had to pay 200 on the Dell site, but i looked onto www.newegg.com and found one stick of RAM better than the one at Dell for 70 bucks!
all you gotta do from there is take out your old RAM and just plug in the new one

Very easy. as long as you get the correct ram for your PC you just open it and you should see a series of long slots that are the right shape and size, its simply a case of push it in until it makes a nice click. Dont ever force it!

depending on the computer it is usually reasonably straight forward but ensure that you were a static wrist band and keep the computer earthed by leaving it plugged into the socket but not turned on
