Join a local no-kill animal shelter. They always need help/money and save a lot of animals.
DO NOT donate to PETA or the Humane Society. they waste your money, sometimes on illegal or unethical things.

If you are afraid your money will be used elsewhere when you donate, you can donate items to the humane shelters. Ours here in town ask in the paper when they need donations for food, bleach, etc. Our humane shelter broke from the city for some reason. (can not remember). We also have a pet haven that rescues cats and kittens from be put down. Try to find a charity that rescues animals and doesn't euthanize them

With charities, that information is public knowledge, phone the ones that are closest to you and ask them what percentage of the money donated to them goes towards animal care, and what percentage for administration, salaries etc.
