Verbal abuse can range from angry tirades to a subtle continuance of negative dialog based towards you on a regular basis. Some people seem to be unaffected, they feel this is the way life is. In some people it can cause lack of self confidence. And some people can become terribly depressed. Then some may even become violent and act out. In some cases it can cause social disorders. Some people feel they would rather be physically abused than verbally, for verbal abuse is emotional control. If you constantly tell someone they are stupid eventually they begin to believe it is true.

Sometimes people that are verbally abused will abuse others verbally.. especially if they are children.. the whole " monkey see monkey do clause"
Older adults who suffer from verbal abuse may have low self esteem, apologize for everything, even if there is no apology necessary, be timid and reserved, and avoid social settings.
Sometimes however, they will strike out against others in the same way that they are getting struck... just like a child.

Constant verbal abuse is very tramatic and can cause life long problems such as :
Eating Disorders
Psyciatric conditions such as depression, etc.
They can turn in to the abusers themselves

It wears down people's selfesteem and changes their interactions and concepts of trust with every person in their lives.

verbal abuse is just another way of controlling the other person,if you are feeling less than worthy, because of the things the other people are telling you, that is abuse.Just remember you are still in control of how you feel, don't let the other person effect how you feel about yourself, like you are not stupid, and yes you can do a lot of things right. We all are valued in this world no matter what anyone says.

well if you feel you are being disrepected...i don't think there are symptoms though because everyone is different therefore everyone will take it differently...but if you feel unhappy and disrespected...then yeah....you probably are being verbaly abused...and i recommend you get out of that relationship as soon as possible before the thought of doing something stupid comes into mind

There are many signs and the link below lists some them..

"If you feel your relationship may be verbally and emotionally abusive, talk to people you trust. Talk to clergy, call your local battered women's shelter, educate yourself, seek professional help. Do not allow verbal and emotional abuse to escalate to battery!"
