why earth rotate? why not?
when you throw something in the air, chance are it WILL rotate one way or the other... And since there's nothing in space to slow earth's rotation, it keeps rotating.
the funny thing is that all planets in the solar system rotate the same way (because of the original momentum of the pre-solar system nebula) EXCEPT mercury, which is slowed down by the sun's tidal forces and forced to rotate backwards.

The entire Solar System, Universe, and beyond have been in motion since the "Big Bang" started it all. Planets, like Earth, rotate on an axis. For example, Earth rotates around it's "rotational axis" which is off by about 23.5° from vertical.
The Earth rotates around once in 24 hours - that's a rate of 1000 miles per hour!. The time it takes for the Earth to rotate completely around once is what we call a day. It's Earth's rotation that gives us night and day.

the earth rotates because of its own magnetic field in its inner core, so the crust, mantle and outer core are rotating with respect to the magnetic field of the inner core. this is because the said 3 layers have either molten or solid iron that reacts to a magnet, and the inner core is a magnet!
