Don't know about damaging the door, but it's an open invitation for trouble. What if someones child decided to crawl in and see what they could find and that door came down. Your looking at a lawsuit. Besides why would you want to.

No. Just be careful not to leave the garage door open when there is a storm or strong wind. On some garages, the wind can get under the roof and blow it right off. If you have a garage door you manually have to open, don't slam it down, it can make the cables come off their rollers and then you'll have a BIG mess. Also be careful about leaving your garage door up if you have kids around, someone couple possibly get hurt. Not much time to react if the garage door is only a foot off the ground and a kid is crawling beneath it. I know there are safeties on most garage doors, but they aren't fool proof. Leaving the garage door up can also lead to critters getting in the garage such as mice, cats, raccoons, etc.

Only during a heavy storm. Wind would catch on both sides of the door and rattle it or even trying to push it to one side.
