Several steps involved. Do some research on what plants grow in your zone. Walk the property at different times of day to see which areas are wet, dry, shady, sunny or get a lot of wind. Design your garden around these microclimates for best results. Keep in mind what the garden will be used for--if there are pets and/or children, design around their paths of travel--for patio or BBQ parties, make sure cooking area is close to kitchen but does not smoke out guests; do not plant things with a high pollen rating if elderly or asthmatic people will be living there, etc.

You may want to rephrase your question. It is very vague. Provide some specifics you want to know, like tools you need, plants to plant, etc.
