British postal strike talks continue

02 November 2003 15:23

Talks aimed at ending Britain's postal workers dispute resumed at noon today.

Union officials and Royal Mail agreed good progress had been made during eleven hours of talks yesterday but that they still had 'some way to go'.

The Communication Workers Union said it was 'extremely helpful' that Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier had joined the talks for the first time.

Speaking as the meeting broke up late last night, Royal Mail chief Adam Crozier said the company was committed to finding a solution which was right for its customers, its staff and the 'long term future health of the business'.

But he said Royal Mail was not prepared to compromise its principles.

More than 20,000 workers are now on unofficial strike action across the capital and in more than a dozen regional centres.

The CWU is not officially condoning the wildcat strike action, but is negotiating on behalf of the workers.

No there is no strike and by the looks of things there isn't going to be one, apparently the CWU and Royal Mail have come to agreement, all that probably means is that Royal Mail make more money and the unions get some glory and the poor posties will get the flack.

well youd think it wouldnt you, with the state of the postal service here in britain, a bloody pigeon could get it there faster, than they could, ive sent postcards to people whilst on holiday and they have got it when ive returned home lol.

in my view there always on bloddy strike or valuable items tend to go walkies or get smashed to smithereens.

postman pat on the kids tv with jess does a better job he he
