at first i would say ich, but then when you metioned the cottony growth, that leads me to believe that he has a fungus called cotton -blotch. You can buy something called Wardley RX fungus control. You can also try Wardley RX promethyasul, which is also used for fungus. Disease is caused from conditions like fighting (which convicts are notorious for), extreme stress, extrememly poor water quality & damage from parasites. You should only have a max of 2 convicts in a tank & they must be 1 male & 1 female. (the males are larger) If you have more than 2, that might be what happened. Hope this helps & good luck!

It sounds like ich to me. Start off by raising the temp. Somewhere around 80 degrees F should do. (Raising the temp will speed up the parasitic cycle, and minimize time it has to spread) Treat with Rid-Ich or meds available to treat ich. Dose daily. Do a 30-50% water change every other day. You may also want to treat with aqua salt as well. If you have to leave, educate a friend who is willing to do this in your absence. If you leave for a week without treating ich, I guarantee you wont have any fish when you come back.

it sounds like your fish really does have ick, treat your tank with some salt (if your tank is like a 2 foot tank then a hand full of salt will do), and in about 3 to 4 days you draw off half the water from the tank ans salt again, then 2 days from then you draw off some of the water again. by then they should be looking better.

Good luck

they have some sort of disease.(fin rot maby)
is the ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels OK. do you clean the tank enough. ( partial water change using a syphon once a week is best)
go to a fish shop and tell them the symptoms and they should be able to give you some type of medicine.
