Well, this is nothing rare and I am sorry you had a bad relationship. I believe the strength of a relationship comes from three basic factors: Trust, Respect and Honesty.
Trust: Comes with time
Respect: Needs to be omnipresent
Honesty:Needs to be omnipresent.
Respect and Honesty should be present in a 'healthy' relationship all the time and these are two factors which can be created/destroyed any time. While trust comes with time.
Give yourself some time. Get to know the person better and you'll get the answer on your own. But ensure along with honesty, you also need to respect (both him and yourself).

If I were to say that the next one would be better then I'll be lying only you alone can build that leave of trust with in yourself the best that I can advice you is to give it time talk to your bf and let him know how you feel try to work on trust issues it also seems to me that you are not quite ready to be in any serious relationship because I bet there are some insecurities that you are dealing with and you may needed time to heal give yourself that time sweety and don't rush in to any thing that you are not comfortable with and try and always remember that time heals all wounds, no one can truly tell you that this relationship would be different but you need to start some where and if you truly believe that you feel safe all we can do is wish you the best of luck

You need time to heal. Like 8months. Take time out, build ur personality, so that you are a cheerful person. Then look for a cheerful boyfriend. Always have the 'bare minimum' for accepting a guy, in this case, look for cheerfulness, and joy and humour in ur next guy.
Funny guys rarely get the inclination to be abusive.
But also learn to read telltale signs quickly, early in the relationships and quit while u still can. othewise u turn into tomato.
best of luck

Always take the relationship slow and remember everybody is not the same, just because one man was a abusive a**hole doesn't mean the next one will be, the next one might just treat u like a queen that u deserve to be treated like
