After you came out of prison you would of had a date that you are out on license until. 6 years after that date your conviction is said to be spent, meaning that it doesn't come up on the records anymore. But whether this really happens i am not 100% sure. I know that you wont have to mention it if you go for a job though. In the UK that is.

You had better consult a solicitor to make sure that the facts are correct on the government file!
There is the Rehabilitaiton of Offenders Act which no doubt you can get on-line. This will tell you when the slate is clean for the purpose of applying for employment etc.,
As I recall, it depends on the sentence length and how much of the term was written off. Read the Act., If in doubt go and see a Solicitor under the free advice form of the Legal Services commission held by many firms which will ensure they are paid for their time and trouble for giving you clear accurate advice.

Hi,it use to be ten years then your file goes into the archives however certain jobs can request data, schools, banks etc.Take no notice of going back to crime. We all make mistakes & should be allowed to turn our lives around.I believe nearly every one at some stage of growing up as stolen especially as a child

No, it is not. You should think about how important it is to have a clean record in the first place, but your chances is, sorry to tell, gone with the wind.. You will have problems getting a visa for U.S., and you will be denied different types of work.

If you'd behaved yourself in the first place you wouldn't have this trouble now, would you! And as you make such a point of being arrested in LONDON and doing your time in ENGLAND, where did you come from in the first place? SURELY NOT from Eastern Europe...?
And did you return the goods you stole or is the poor bastard you stole from STILL OUT OF POCKET thanks to you and your ilk???
