I lived in Oklahoma for 6 years and I can promise you that you'll get along great with everyone! The people there, most of them anyway, are very kind. They'll be very helpful and I know you'll make many friends!

My family is from the area you are visiting (judging by your other question about McAlester). I do not think you will encounter any problems. People will probably be curious at most, and might strike up a conversation if they hear you talking. There is not a whole lot of Europeans that come over to that area, so people will be fairly curious. Furthermore, do not expect any discrimination, unless you are black or brown (most people can't tell Indian from Mexican), cause then you might, probably won't, but might run into to some jerks. People tend to be pretty helpful and should give you a hand with any problems you are having. So honestly, you really don't have anything to worry about.

I highly doubt you'll have any problems. I moved here 18yrs ago, my accent bought me more free drinks than you can imagine. I came to Pennsylvania and as soon as folks would hear me talk they would say, "I'm English" which for the most part translated to they're grandparents were English. Americans are proud of their British ancestry, I think that's a very cool thing. As a rule Americans are also very hospitable. This is an awesome country filled with wonderful people. I love them so much I became a citizen 3yrs ago. Don't worry you'll have a wonderful time.

I think that you will find that people will go out of their way to talk to you and be friendly to you, if you exercise politeness and friendliness to them. Americans, particularly in the rural west and south (No offense to Yankees, but speak to ten people you pass on the street in my home state of North Carolina and speak to ten people on the street in my summer home state of New York and compare the responses you get), are full of hospitality and a desire to make "outsiders" feel right at home. Of course you will find anal orifices in any square mile of land area in any country, but barring that 10% that show up everywhere you should find Americans ready to help you with directions, advice or a quick geography and/or history lesson if they have a little time and a courteous approach from you.
Besides, we love your accent and your interesting turns of phrase, "Eh, wot?"

Are you going to a hostel or hotel? Generally those people are very nice and will help you out a lot, the locals will probably just keep themselves to themselves but don't be surprised if someone strikes up a conversation at random (Americans are like that).
They'll probably just think you're quaint and dig your cute accent ;)

Especially Oklahomans are friendly and helpful. Some are really rich too (oil) I never saw so many mink coats in one place, ever, in the Tulsa airport. Have fun.
