Tricky one.
The short answer is that the general perception of white Australians is that Aborigines are hopeless alcoholics. Get into a conversation with most Aussies and they do not have anything good to say about them, other than "it's a shame". When we arrived here I heard a lot of such comments and my gut reaction was to defend them, but I got a lot of "you'll see" type responses.
I think the perception is that they get a lot of money from the government but do nothing but drink. Maybe if you dug deeper you would see that education and employers are institutionally racist?
I live in a part of Sydney with a high Aborigine population and when I tell people I live there they usually have an opinion on it.
There is a huge blind spot on the part of white Australia with regard to Aborigines. I don't know what the unemployment rate is, but I have not yet seen any evidence that they are part of the workforce, but that is probably just a city thing - maybe they hold down jobs in rural areas.
It is a tragedy - after all, their country was stolen from them less than 200 years ago, and they had managed to live in perfect harmony with their environment for 40,000 years. I am sure that post-apocalypse, their culture will rise again. This modern one does not seem to suit them though as far as I have seen with my own eyes.
I will say one thing - they are the only people I have come across who, when they are begging and you give them money, will always complain that you have not given them enough. Happens every time, so I have stopped contributing.
It's way more complex than I can get to grips with...but I hope this helps.

There is racism and discrimination in Australia, although nowadays Australian state and federal governments are making efforts to improve health and living conditions for aborigines. Some of the problems suffered by aborigines are due to the fact that, prior to the arrival of europeans all people in Australia lived in small groups as hunter gatherers. This is different to America and Africa where there was farming, cities and politically organised cultures among the native populations. Aborigines have suffered 200 years of extreme culture shock.

Aboriginals are respected here in Australia. They are our history. It's just that a lot of the Aboriginals in our history were slaughtered by the people who came to make Australia civilised and are left feeling bitter and are wanting more rites to the land, Which they are very much in-titled to. The Aboriginals that are still protesting for more rites have been subjected to retaliation and it is a viscous circle.

In Australia there is a stereotype of the average aboriginal, a beer guzzling, fight starting , homeless vandal. This stereotype is untrue for the majority of the poulation but an minority do act the way the stereotype dictates. In my local town they are often referred to as 'parkies' because they often are forced to live in parks. Most of these people have had bad luck at one stage in their life and have been forced into a homeless life. These people are very often of unemployment or 'the doll' in Australia. They fall into serious depresssion being homeless and often become alchoholic where they spend all this unemployment on alchohol or drugs.
The stereotype is unfortunately echoed throughout Australian culture and many aboriginals are treated in a disgusting manner by white Australians. Another cause of this racial hate is due to the aboriginal youth culture which are often steroetyped as 'urban juggernaughts of destruction' and seemed to be blamed by the general public for most petty crimes. I must admit the two times i have been mugged it has been aboriginal juveniles who have mugged me but I don't hold it against their race.
Alot of this stems from the early ignorence of Australians when it came to human rights.
Aboriginals were classed amond the lowest people by many Australians up until the last 50 years. Infact to show you how they were classed I will give you a small example. There is an island off Northern Queensland known as 'Palm Island' this was a aboriginal community established by the europeans and still remains a aboriginal colony is is weel renowned for civil unrest which occured there a few years ago. Next to this island is Fantome Island another colony established by Europeans. On this island was a colony of lepers. It shows you how aboriginals were treated when they were placed on an island next to an island of lepers.
I as a european Australian am not proud of this history of abuse and discrimination by us but attempts are bing made to mend the issues and I personally hope they suceed.

I've been to Australia and visited an aborigine village. Absolutely terrible poverty. It's comparable to how Americans treat American Indians. They shove them off to pieces of worthless land and forget about them.

i love reading misinformed evaluations from those who "study some thing" or "heard some thing" yet do not actual understand for a reality. I stay in Sydney and do not deal with aboriginal human beings badly. they have get top of entry to to all sorts of advantages that the avereage Australian does no longer. particular advantages for interpreting, significantly decreased prices of interest for housing loans and so on. I actual have absolutly no problem with aboriginal human beings, they're Australian so why may I be racist in route of them? I actual have in spite of the indisputable fact that, been verybally abused, offended and lower than pressure many circumstances byaboriginal human beings for purely minding my personal business enterprise. i believe they were treated very wrongly many, many years in the past yet that became no longer my doing. The usa isn't divided by technique of any problem with aboriginal human beings. in reality, they have each and each and every of the possibilities of their fellow countrymen and better advantages in the journey that they chosen to apply them.

I don't see how people can say that Aborigines are drunks and start fights and sh*t when the white population of Australia was started by CONVICTS. Who do you think corrupted the natives?

They are the original natives of that country. The English originally used Australia as a penal colony. The Aborignes were not as civilized as the English criminals so they were treated as lower life forms. We have mistreated our Native Americans in much the same way.

Because all Aussies are cunnies. They seem to think that giving abuse to the people without whom they never would have survived when we shipped the criminal turdbags out there is a good thing to do. Ask most Aussies why they mistreat the natives and you'll 9 times out of 10 get the answer 'Because they are lazy alcoholics who can't bring up their children properly'. Obviously, this is bollocks.

Was it Einstein who said "..." something about our technologies outgrowing our humanity. Our technologies are running amok and we're just running over every other "smaller" people (and animal, and land) we can because it's out of our control. We think we're in control; that's why we're still at the wheel - or we don't know how to live any other way - or we fear living any other way.
Ah...here it is...
"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity."
We've chosen "things" over people; ourselves over others.
