How can I tell my flatmate I don't want to live with her any more? She's always been a ***** and I only decided to live with her because she has no one else. I've tried to be patient but she bitches about me a lot and makes me feel v uncomfortable being in the flat. I'd rather live with my proper mates then carry on trying to be nice to her.
I've tried talking to her but she always denies bitching about me and says we're still mates even though we don't do anything together. I'm sick of always being the one to put in the effort to resolve her problem but I feel bad for leaving her on her own. I get the feeling thought she is using me so she's not on her own and its cheaper rent this way!
What can I say to her without causing even more grief for the remaining time we have to share the flat while she looks for a new one and I move in with my mates?

Tell her that you don't think that it is working out you two being flatmates and that you feel that there is tension between the two of you. Tell her that you are going to move into another mate's flat because the rent is cheaper.

If she complains about you leaving her on her own, then just say something like 'I'm not your parents. You're old enough to stand on your own two feet.'

She sounds like a user. Don't speak to her after she leaves. But you must get her out. It causes stress.

I don't think she values your friendship and she is just using you as a way to save a bit on the rent- anyone who really is your friend wouldn't treat you this way.
I think that since you're miserable as you are you should just not tell her why you're moving, and just leave as soon as you can. Otherwise, look at the picture a year from now- you'll still be there, resenting your flatmate, when you could be living the way you want with a bunch of people you get on well with and being happy.
I give you credit though, for not wanting to stoop to her level by upsetting her when she has clearly upset you. You really are a good friend.

I had the same problem! My flatmate was so uncomfortable to live with and I got upset coz it made me miss my real friends even more.

I would just say to her that your friends need you to move in as they have a spare room and cant currently afford the rent and they really want/need you to move in! Say it like you have to help you other friends, and she'l know that you would wana do that coz she'l know you are better friends with them.

Say sorry and offer to help her find someone fill your place.

At the end of the day if shes in a mood, who cares you will be outa there soon and you will feel so much better! definitely do it! i am so glad i did!

good luck!

Find someone else for her that would make a good friend and can take her attitude. That way you wont be leaving her on her own.

Make something up - by no means tell her why. Say that you think it'll be more fun this way and they've invited you to join them. Lie through you teeth to make sure she thinks it's not about her.
