practically it sometimes might seem like enemies are better, if you have any enemies that is, because you got no expectations from your enemies...and friends being humans and prone to frailities do let your "expectations" down at times...
a good enemy can always be better than a bad friend if comfort is what you seek..
and spiritually yes, enemies are better...because only with your enemies do you show your true character! ...in a sense your enemies can be a mirror of what you really are!...nobody can teach you patience and virtues like your enemies can;) isnt it?!

arjun and his teacher bhishm were enemies in the battle field (mahabharat)....they were always more than friends, ....and yet arjun had to kill his own teacher!

i have many enemies at school. At first i thought that my friends were way better than my enemies even though my friends made me in trouble and made me cry twice a week. However, in past few days, i found out that my friends don't like me anymore. I never knew it would happen, because i always helped them with their problems and homeworks. Now, i can say that some of my enemies are way much better than my friends. They don't talk to me, but they come to me if they need help with their homework. They would talk how smart i am and everything. They just don't like me for being indian born and living in the country where they were born. I feel that it would be nice for me to talk to my enemies rather than talking to my friends. MY ENEMIES ARE BETTER THAN MY FRIENDS.

It's good to have both because friends are there for there and keep you happy. Enemies are mean but they teach you how to deal with people like that. Learning to deal with mean people is an important skill in life. Friends are nice and also teach you things so they are both equal.

Nonsence! This proverb is not true! Friends r better, nicer, more caring and above they r tru people, whereas enemies just think of a way behind your back to kill you or to treaten you, or make things turn worst!
Friends r better, enemies should not live!!

Depend, you can have a false friend (no friend) that is worse than a good enemies, at least from my point of view

in a way i guess...at least you know where you stand with your enemies and know to be wary of them....when a friend betrays you it is a complete ambush, friends have a better chance of destroying you than enemies
