I'm sorry to say your going to have to fight this childish behaviour by holding your head high, you know the truth. She seems to have little else to do then gossip so remember that in 20 years time she'll still be a hapless gossip and you'll have made something of yourself despite or because of your unfortunate past. Good luck to ya!

loose lips sink ships mate. The police are powerless to help you but can move heaven and earth to punish you pal, these are life's lessons - The police suck ***; lesson learnt.
People talk bad about other people mate, it happens all the time. So what? If every time someone says something like this and you let it get to you then its going to a long and sad life for you. People talk about me, I just let it be. I dont care. It will never stop so just brush it off and move on.
Life is always about choices - you can wake up in the morning and its your choice to be in a good mood or a bad mood - choose to be in a good one. You have a choice, either let this rumor get the better of you and waste time thinking about it ( which is probably what the person wants) or you can just laugh it off and live your life. I know what i'd do!!!

I sympathise totally; it really sucks when the things we keep locked inside get blabbed out to all - even more so if the truth has been corrupted like this.
The police will probably turn up after a few days to ask some questions. In my experience they take their time, but they do - eventually - get the job done.
Pick up the phone and ask the local station what is being done. I think it comes under slander/malicious gossip/defamation of character ..... or something.
Don't let it get to you and if you want to talk; IM / mail me.

Even though its really bad that someone is doing that, there is not much the Police can do. Its not against the law to tell a lie about someone.
The only thing you could do is go to a lawyer and sue her for slander/liable. But then you would have to have proof.

Get a life....remember...the old saying, " Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me".
Police/Sherriff Departments have better things to do but act on your reports of hear say....Rumors are just that....People will be gullible and believe what they want. You know the truth...
You need to get a life...and quit dwelling on what other people say. Get counseling you definetly need it!

Hello again. Go down to the police station in person. The police are stretched pretty thin and will, unfortunately, brush you off if you simply call. Go to the station in person and ask to see somebody. Good luck.

They may be checking the background of the person you reported before they contact you,,( or they may have forgot all about it ),, I'd give them a call to see if the ball is rolling.
