There could be several reasons why that could happen. How loud is the noise?

1. check if the HDD is fastened properly with screws.
2. Is there some program constantly accessing data?
3. Have you defragmented lately?
4. Run chkdsk or scandisk to determine if you have bad sectors.

If it never did this before and is just starting to do this. Means it is starting to fail in some of the sector areas. Do a scandisk to repair or block off those sectors. Hard drives are big enough today that it is no big problem if a few sectors go bad. However if more and more go bad, you are going to have to replace it soon.

There are some freeware/shareware utilities out there which will check the condition of your harddrive.

But don't assume the worst. Run some antivirus software and spyware software first. Do these in safe mode to get rid of viruses or spyware that attach to system files. Sometimes these make your hard drive make noise too.

Also consider that some HDD's are just plain noisy. Just because it's making a lot of noise doesn't mean that something is wrong. If you scan for problems and there aren't any, then you might just have a noisy hard drive. Nothin to worry about.

Some high speed HDD s make a voice like this.
If it wasn't droped and u didn't jerk it , so don't worry. It's normal.
