As far as just appearances, Brazil, as they are the only nation to qualify for every tournament. As far as advancing from the group stage, Germany/West Germany have never failed to advance, as in all 14 appearances in the tournament they made it past the first round. As far as making the semifinals, Germany/West Germany lead the pack there, appearing in the semifinals 11 times. Brazil is close behind, with 10, and Italy has 8 and France 5, to close out the top four. As far as appearances in the final, Brazil and Germany/West Germany both have 7, Italy 6, and Argentina 4. Brazil has won the cup 5 times, Italy 4, and Germany/West Germany 3. Based on those numbers, I think it is pretty clear that Brazil and Germany/West Germany have proved superior in the history. i will say Brazil and Germany! why they both either one of them was on the finals until this time, if u revised the final matches of all the previous world cup u will find either Germany or Brazil was playing in the final or both against each other!
