The current Surgeon General supports it:

"Embryonic stem-cell research is "essential" to medical science, but how much is needed and how to pay for it are matters society must continue to debate, U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona said Tuesday.
"The country is very divided on this," Carmona said here Wednesday after President Bush vetoed legislation to expand federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research. "The president is struggling with this issue. But the reality is that half the country feels stem-cell research challenges their beliefs."
Carmona said that in his opinion, "Stem-cell research is essential. How fast the research needs to be done and how much funding it deserves, those are policy issues."
Carmona said it's his job to drive policy but not decide policy issues. That's the work of elected officials and the people who vote them into office, he said.
"My job is to report the science," he said. "

A previous Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, M.D., supports therapeutic cloning but opposes reproductive cloning. See this article:
