The Rosetta Stone was the key that unlocked the mysteries of the Egyptian hieroglyphics. (1)
Ptlomy V wanted to reunify his country & issued a series of decrees to create a royal cult & reestablish his power & legitimacy as a ruler. His priests inscribed his decrees on stones in Greek, Demotic(the writings of the people, Egyptian) & Hieroglyphics (the script used for important or religious documents). "The Rosetta stone is a copy of the decree issued in the city of Memphis." (2)
It was carved in 196 BC & found by French soldiers rebuilding a fort in a town called Rosetta (Rashid) in 1799.
Jean -Francois Champollion deciphered it in 1822.
The stone lists all of the good things the Pharaoh had done for the priests & the people of Egypt. (3)
It is 3 feet 9 in. long & 2feet 4 1/2 in wide (4)
It's been in the British Museum since 1802 but was temporarily moved for 2yrs in 1917 to the Postal Tube Railway 50 ft. below ground to protect it toward the end of the WW1. (1)

The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). The Rosetta Stone is written in three scripts because when it was written, there were three scripts being used in Egypt.
The first was hieroglyphic which was the script used for important or religious documents. The second was demotic which was the common script of Egypt. The third was Greek which was the language of the rulers of Egypt at that time.
The Rosetta Stone was written in all three scripts so that the priests, government officials and rulers of Egypt could read what it said. The Rosetta Stone was carved in 196 B.C..The Rosetta Stone was found in 1799.The Rosetta Stone was found by French soldiers who were rebuilding a fort in Egypt. The Rosetta Stone was found in a small village in the Delta called Rosetta (Rashid). It is called the Rosetta Stone because it was discovered in a town called Rosetta (Rashid). The Rosetta Stone is a text written by a group of priests in Egypt to honour the Egyptian pharaoh. It lists all of the things that the pharaoh has done that are good for the priests and the people of Egypt. Many people worked on deciphering hieroglyphs over several hundred years. However, the structure of the script was very difficult to work out.
After many years of studying the Rosetta Stone and other examples of ancient Egyptian writing, Jean-François Champollion deciphered hieroglyphs in 1822.
Champollion could read both Greek and coptic.
He was able to figure out what the seven demotic signs in coptic were. By looking at how these signs were used in coptic he was able to work out what they stood for. Then he began tracing these demotic signs back to hieroglyphic signs.
By working out what some hieroglyphs stood for, he could make educated guesses about what the other hieroglyphs stood for.
Therefore, in a society where different scripts r used , multilingual orders pave the way for greater understanding of information.

The stone was found by Napoleon's troops near the city of Rosetta, in the southern part of Egypt. It was carved in three different languages, only one of which was understood at the time, Ancient Greek. The other two languages were demonic and Egyptian hieroglyphics.
When scholars figured out that the three messages were identical, it opened the door to understanding ancient writings. Consequently, today we understand virtually everything written by the ancient Egyptians.
It is probably one of the greatest linguistic discoveries of all time.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! it allowed the translation of the ancient egyptian heiroglyphics found in the pyramids. Prior to the discovery of the rosetta stone, the writing was a mystery. Archaeologists realised the writing said something, i.e. it wasn't just fancy wall paper, but they had no idea what was being said.

The Rosetta stone contained the same passage in Latin, Hyroglyphs and some other language. Using this stone we were able to decipher Egyptian hyroglyphics which was extreemly important to understanding early Egyptian culture.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
It is the ONLY reason we able to read and understand hieroglyphics.
And therefore the SOLE reason we have knowledge of the ancients, their thoughts, their doings.
If it wasn't for the Rosetta Stone, current humanity would think that we were highest on the evolutionary ladder (intelligence-wise) and we are CLEARLY NOT!

Are you searching for the Holy Grail?
There are a few cathedrals that still have very beautiful ( and old ) Rosetta stones.
More than that, I couldn't tell ya.
