Firstly, a strong electric current burns flesh internally, and can therefore cause large internal damage. Electric shocks also cause muscular spasms, as small electric impulses is what the nervous system uses to cause muscles to contract. A large electric shock can cause muscles to involuntarily spasm (this is why people may be "thrown" across a room by an electric shock as it causes the muscles in their legs to spasm). If this muscular spasm effects organs such as the heart and lungs, the dangers are obvious. Also, electricity can intefer with neurological signals (which is why stun guns use electricity), and if the current goes through the brain it can cause loss of control over various organs.
