First of all, you *don't* calculate when you ovulate. If you want to know when you ovulate, you need to chart signs of fertility. Read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler for details.

You *can* estimate when you will ovulate. It probably won't help you get pregnant, though. Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their next period. So if you have a 28 day cycle, then you probably ovulate between days 12 and 16 of your cycle--or 11-15 days *after* the first day you have bright red bleeding of your period. (If you spot for a day or two before, that *doesn't* count.)

Sperm can live in the female body for up to 3-5 days if conditions are right (see book recommendation above for more on the right conditions), but only a few hours (not long enough to reach the Fallopian tubes) otherwise. The egg only lives for a few hours (occasionally up to 24 hours). By the time you know you have ovulated, it is probably too late to get pregnant. So you have to have sex *before* you ovulate in order to conceive, preferably the day before, since some women are only fertile for 1-2 days before ovulation.

If your husband has a normal to high sperm count, sex every day just before ovulation will give you the best chance of getting pregnant. If it's low to low-average, then sex every *other* day is more likely. Again, this can make it *really* important to know *precisely* when you are ovulating, and not just within a few days; if you are only fertile for one day, and you are having sex every other day, it's easy to get it wrong--even month after month. Please read the book.

If your cycle is 28 days then your cycle is regular. Women with regular periods ovulate about 14 days after the first day of their periods. However every woman is different, it all depends on your body. You may ovulate a day early or a day later. So if you are trying to conceive just have sex about two or three days before you believe you will ovulate up until three days after you believe you ovulated. These are the days you should be very fertile.

normally ovulation is happened 14 days before the 1st day of menstruation (note: mens, not spotting).
let's say ur 1st day of menstruation is on date 1.
so the end of ur mens will be on date 7 and with a cycle of 28 days, ur next mens will be on date 29. if this is regular, ur days of ovulation mostly is on date 14.
If u have unprotected sex between day 11 (in assumption that a sperm has 3 days life) and day 16 (in assumption that ovum has 24-36 hours life and the cycle can be changes 1-2 days) then u can get pregnant.
Please understand that there are alot of methods to find out when the probable time of ovulation and doctor tends to use several methods to find the most probable time.

If your cucle is every 28 days (meaning you bleed every 28 days) then you would ovulate on day 14. This means on day 13-15 you would be most fertile. This is because you bleed 14 days AFTER you ovulate if you do not conceive. You can always do the basal temperature every morning to check for fertile days. It worked for me!
Just try to do things near day 14. Good Luck!
