ASD yes you can but lots of programming involved. It is not that easy as you think.
Java is a programming language. It can be used to make all kinds. I do not send the data file over the network.

Socket programming in Java isn't hard. It follows typical file i/o to some extent, so it is fairly logical to use. And it's supported in the standard SDK.
