Quaker is a nickname for members of the Religious Society of Friends. Quakers prefer being called Friends. Some Quakers reach a state of spiritual reverie and quake. This was observed more often in the past than today. In my few years of attending Friends Meetings I never witnessed it. There are about 250,000 or so. They are originally from England and moved to the Philadelphia area to avoid prosecution. William Penn is the man on the oatmeal box and who Pennsylvania is named after.

"The name "Quaker" was first used in 1650, when preacher George Fox was brought before Justice Bennet of Derby on a charge of blasphemy. According to Fox's journal, Bennet "called us Quakers because we bid them tremble at the word of God."[9] Indeed, early Friends did tremble and shake at their meetings, and spent many pamphlets defending "quaking" as a biblical phenomenon. Some Friends (including Fox) disliked the name, but it began to stick nonetheless. There was apparently an attempt after a 1654 meeting in Leicestershire to become known as the "children of light", but this was not successful."
