Please please please, avoid skin cancer and get it out of a bottle. I am very fair and do not tan, however long I lie there for. I am always the whitest person at the airport on my return journey, including the new arrivals! Have discovered the best and most natural fake tan though. L'oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Gel. You need to exfoliate first (you can use a body puff if you don';t like exfoliants), then lightly moisturise. When that has set in, apply the Bronzer evenly and rub in really well. It goes on beautifully and easily. As its a get it feels quite greasy at first and does take a time to dry, so don't do it in a hurry, but if you take your time, I promise you will get a substantial, streak free even looking tan that lasts at least five days. Remember to moisturise daily as fake tan, like real tan, dehydrates your skin. You can just rub it on without all that preparation, but you won't look like you've had a weekend in the Riviera. The tan starts to develop in an hour, and by the next day is a lovely deep colour. I have tried all of them, and I keep going back to this one. If you want a quick one, try Piz Buin self-tan mousse. It dries in about five minutes, but it doesn't have the deep colour of Tan Sublime, the spray on ones are hard to get right.

I suggest you just self-tan yourself. It is more safer than tanning under the sun that might cause skin cancer.

How To How To Apply A Fake Tan

There is no such thing as a safe tan, but luckily we now can look as if we have been in the sun for hours. The formulations are far superior to the ones of a few years ago.

Here's How:
1. Exfoliate area to be tanned. This is a very important first step so don't skip over it.

2. Rinse skin thoroughly. There can be no soap film from your last bubble bath.

3. Do not apply moisturizer before applying the tanning product.

4. Thoroughly rub the self-tanner into the skin to avoid streaks.

5. Do not apply to knees, elbows or feet.

6. Wash hands to remove the product.

7. Allow color to develop.

8. If smell is an issue, wash the area well after the color has fully developed. With the self-tanners on the market today, this is rarely an issue any more.

Tips:
Apply your self-tanners with a light hand. Additional layers can always be added later.
Dark red toe nails will look great with your freshly tanned legs.
Be sure to protect your skin with a sunscreen of at least SPF 20. If you plan a day at the beach, be sure to apply a waterproof sunscreen. It will need to be reapplied ever hour or so. Be sure not to forget!

* Top 5 Self Tanners

1) Neutrogena Instant Bronze, Deep
A sunless tanner and instant bronzer in one product. Put the cream on for an instant bronze color with the actual tan setting in 30 minutes. The bronze tint helps insure an even application since you can see where the cream is as you put it on. The fast dry formula allows you to dress within 5 minutes of application. Comes in medium and deep tones.

2) Environmental Shield Self Tanner SPF 15
A self tanner with SPF protection. This self tanner sets in 10-15 minutes with the tan showing up within 2 hours. Perfect for a day at the beach as it offers sun protection as well as a safe tan. Warning: you can not swim until the tan has shown up or you risk washing away the self tanner and/or leaving streaks.

3) Clinique Self-Tanning Body Mist
If even application is a problem for you, or if you always seem to get a darker tan on the palms if your hands than anywhere else, this is the self tanner for you. Spray it on, rub it in and wash your hands to avoid the tell-tale "orange palm". This spray smells great and sets fast so you can get dressed quickly.

4) Clarins Instant Self Tanning Gel
Plant botanicals make this one of the best smelling self tanners on the market. The tinted gel allows you to see where the tan will appear and the bronze tint is very close to the color of the end tan. The gel won't clog pores, dries quickly and is easy to apply.

5) Bain de Soleil Streakguarde Self Tanning Creme
Aside from uneven application, streaks are one of the biggest problems with self tanning. This inexpensive self tanner is formulated to eliminate the streak problem while leaving behind a beautiful bronzed color. Won't clog pores. This gel has a coconut scent that is reminicent of the beach. Available in medium, dark, and deep dark.

GGAAAAAAACCCKK!!!!
Have you not been paying attention? The ozone layer is hammered. For 'TAN' read skin-damage and the invitaion of skin cancers. Don't dare go to a tanning booth either, they will not refund your money when you're dying from melanoma. If you must appear tanned, and who says so anyway, use fake tan, which doesn't look orange anymore.

Oy-vey, people!

fake tan looks cheap and nasty besides its cheating. you don't say if you burn easily so you could be using too high a sun block. a lot of people tan better near water as it reflects the sun light
