God save the queen is a total embarrassment as is the monarchy, if this country must have an anthem then it must be one that reflects 21st century england. Scotland is going its own way and will have its own anthem. and why should god save the queen what about the rest of us?

I'm incredibly patriotic but I don't even know the words of the national anthem! I have Union Jack and St. Georges Cross flags at home and always have one or the other pinned up over one of my front windows.

I heard this spoof some years ago where some movie actors sang "God shave the queen.." Since then, whenever I hear the song, I think of it and can't keep a straight face.

You are definately not patriotic. At least not in any sense that I understand. Being patriotic is all about tradition, culture, values etc. There is nothing more embedded, traditional and symbolic, than the royal family. (1000 years+). So no, you are more likely to be a Radical, maybe even Revolutionary, or perhaps, an Anarchist. Nontheless, your view would be most welcome in left wing circles, including our current government. At least you have a choice, dictators don't give you a choice.

patriottism is just a way of loving your country to an extent that you let your leaders do the thinking for you: so why be patriotic.
I'm Belgian and on any official ceremony we are actually forbidden to sing our national anthem. this due to the fact that it is written in both national languages and since choosing one of them could be seen as discriminating the other, we simply keep our mouth shut.
