I think it's a very nervous laugh, myself. I weigh some 300 lbs., so I know what I'm speaking of. Teenagers, mostly; the older one gets, the more compassion one develops. And I have to admit, some of the situations are funny, like the time one of those cheap plastic armchairs stuck to my butt when I stood up. But most of them are annoying to both myself and the people around me, like being on a crowded bus and saying, "Well, there's room for a very skinny person here beside me."

Kids tend to think that a person who is very heavy is gluttonous, undisciplined, etc. What they don't realize is that a person who is very heavy today may have been out of control 20 or 30 years ago, and now it would take either major surgery or a sustained crash diet together with exercise I can't even imagine being able to do at my age.

In the mid-1980s, I joined Overeaters Anonymous and lost some 140 pounds in about two years. Imagine losing enough for a whole person from your body! What's left is usually some very, very baggy skin, and a body that knows how to put weight back on at an alarming rate, together with a lifetime of finding sugary and fatty foods tastier than carrots and celery. I held the weight off for awhile pretty well as long as I could get a good bit of exercise. But in 1989 my leg was broken in two places, and for quite a while, I got hardly any exercise, and then started back only very slowly. I tried working out with weights to make up for all the walking I used to do, but old habits of making excuses to let it go just this one day, I'm so tired . . . The catch 22 is that the heavier you are, the more difficult, even dangerous, exercise becomes. Now if I tried to do more than the walking I currently do, my irregular heart rhythm might just turn into a heart attack.

So, you slim and elegant things, do take care of your healthy bodies and have a little compassion for our situation. Get over the urge to make stupid jokes that just show your immaturity.

Do people really laugh at fat people? Where I come from, people dun laugh at fat people, they run away from them in fear of being crush by them...hehehe... sorrie..
I suppose its just tat fat pple tend to be slower and clumsier when moving around... no offense but when u see a panda bear or an elephant move, we tend to find it amusing....similarly, we attribute them to fat people subconsciously...
Skinny pple get laughed upon just as much. So most importantly is that you have a clear conscience and love yourself.

LOL leads to Alzheimer's..... LOL now that I have never heard of !!!!!

Obesity leads to all sorts of health issues. Diabetes, Heart Disease, Joint Pain, Mental Issues, etc.

Sometimes being fat isn't what people actually eat. It can be caused by genetics & many medicines including birth control!

People like to laugh at anything they see... and I'm skinny and get laugh at as well. Our society love faultlessness and blindly follows how stars and models and if we don't follow the norm they feel there is something wrong with you. People see obese people because they look clumsy and their movement is restricted.

Because "fat people" are seen as another "race" or something "different". And, as you know, the human race will discriminate and hate anything they can't understand, don't know about, or are afraid of.
