I've dated men that wore skirts and make-up to the clubs and were 100% straight. Albeit, in the goth scene gender amiguity is not that uncommon. Frankly a man who isn't afraid to put on make-up is one who is pretty secure in his sexuality and knows that it doesn't change how he feels about women or men. Those who are comfortable with differences in others sexuality rather than being closed-minded and afraid often make better partners. I'd rather be with someone who wasn't afraid to experiment than be with someone who was afraid of doing something or expressing his feelings because he was afraid that it's too effeminate.

Frankly, I've also dated men who shaved all or parts of their bodies. When I was 17 and my boyfriend shaved his legs I was a little weirded out by it. But, now I rather prefer guys to shave off body hair. It's nicer to kiss skin than get a mouth full of hair, imo. :) And it's not that hard to convince a guy to shave his chest or family jewels once you bring that up. One ex once explained to a customer (in the knife shop where he worked) about why he had shaved the hair off his arms as being similar to those crazy buff celebrities.... you never see them showing off their muscles covered in body hair, right? ;-)

At any rate, to get back to the original question... I guess it depends on what you mean by "the line." In terms of being homosexual or bisexual it's pretty clear that depends on his physical actions in the realm of sexuality. If you're talking about simply being "too feminine" to be accepted and desired by a hetero woman that really depends from one woman to the next. Clearly some women would freak out if their boyfriend doned a skirt and eyeliner to go out to a club or if he shaved off his body hair. But, it's probably pretty safe to say that most wouldn't mind if he opened up emotionally and expressed his thoughts and feelings without fear.

Everybody's got a different line. And crossing it in one particular may not make that much difference. I find your question hard to fathom. It sounds like you want to nudge as close to "the line" as you can without crossing it. If you want to get that close, why don't you want to cross it? And if you are evaluating someone else, why not forget it, and let him live his own life in his own way?
