it depends upon the purpose of the site. if u r a beginner and want to upload for practise, geocities on yahoo is the best option. but if the site is commercial or professional etc, u will have to buy a domain name, and then follow a proper procedure as guided by internet service providers. if it is ambigous, talk to me on my id. i will clarify it.

If you have an FTP account go to www.surftp.com. Login with ur accouunt and FTP host then select upload. Zip ur website and then browse it at the zip upload section. Click upload and voila!

Nah don't use Geocities. These days there are loads of good free hosting providers. One of them is addyour.net . They offer free cPanel hosting with Fantastico. Register for an account there. And then log in to cPanel and use File Manager to upload your site. They also provide FTP access. You can ftp your files too. But easier way is to zip up your site and then upload it to public_html and then extract the zip using File Manager in cPanel.

That way you will also learn how to use cPanel and then you can get a paid hosting later(if you want to). Example of paid cPanel hosting: http://www.electedhosting.com

you can get free ftp program such as aceftp, wsftp (get it from download.com)

set up a ftp account on your web server.

use the ftp program to upload the files

look dor the net that offers domain services. you can also upload it for free. some offers it for free like geocities
