Read a bit of a book this will get the room peacefull and quiet and slow your heart rate, don't watch tv (this will do the opposite!). You can by lavender sleep sprays now which you can spray on you bedlinen or just a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow will do fine.
Look out for balms which you rub on to your temples these work a treat and are very relaxing. Hope this helps you x
This is actually making me yawn!

Sleep theropists will advise you to get into a routine. That is to do several things in the same order every night before getting into bed. This method is slow to have effect as the first few night you might have trouble falling asleep, but it does work! Soon your subconcious will be triggered by these routine actions and then sleep will follow.
The routine might be to read a book as the last step, this will also trigger sleep and helps to free your mind of the days events.
But one final question...if you snore? If you do ...go get a "sleep study" done. You may have APNEA...if you do, it is the source of all your sleepness nights. GOOD LUCK.

aren't unsociable hours a bugger!! having worked for the health service for many years all I can tell you establishing a routine tends to help most , not drinking caffiene loaded drinks does help, but reading a book or magazine or watching a video also may help to relax you , the main trouble is that the adreneline is still pumping when you finish work just when all around you alcohol is taking it's toll.
however on a final note there are people who cannot adjust to unsocialable hours and never get used to them so it may a case of finding a job with less unsociable hours.

go home soak your feet in some warm water for about 15 mins while drinking a cup of horlcks or ovaltine while listening to some relaxing music then go upstairs to bed put television on and lie down before you know it you will be dropping off in no time while working dont drink tea or coffee as this is a stimulant and will keep you awake best of luck

sit and watch TV. Anything on TV, after 20 or 30 minutes, you will be ready for bed but please don't walk off to bed, make sure that you actually sleep a while in front of the TV before finally retiring to bed.

Try hot chocolate, hot bath and some relaxing music but avoid booze as it stimulates you
