I shave "down there"... and I have been for about twelve years. It takes a lot of getting used to (the first year I was a mess), and some practice.

First off, don't use a crap disposable razor. Get something like a Venus or a Silk Effects razor. Make sure that if you're going to shave down there repeatedly that you use a pretty sharp blade. This doesn't mean you have to use a new blade every time (that could get costly), but you don't want to use one that you've shaved with for a couple of weeks. This causes some of the redness because a dull razor doesn't glide across skin.

I stand facing the water for about 3-4 minutes. This helps open the pores and soften the hair.

Razor bumps are usually caused by ingrown hairs. The best way to help this is to "scrub" the area with a 'poof' or washcloth. It helps the hairs come out from under the skin.

Don't use bar soap!!! Or shaving cream!!! A lot of women are sensitive to bar soap, and actually break out from it. Use a feminine cleanser like Massengill Wash. It's fairly cheap. I get mine at Wal-mart for under $3.00. And it lasts about 5 months.

Lather *really* well. :) I can't stress this enough.

When you start to shave, stand with one foot on the side of the tub (if you're able) and use your free hand to "pull" the area you're shaving taut. Trying to get around the curves and legs is difficult enough. This helps. Getting skin caught in the razor hurts!!!!!

Don't press too hard, either. Very gently glide the razor. I go against the hair growth, but like I said I've been doing this for years. Do whatever is the most comfortable for you.

AND!!! Bang your razor (the blades) against the shower wall to clear it of hair every few strokes. This is uber important!!! When hair gets clogged in the blades it dulls the razor much more quickly.

Afterwards, use deodorant on the areas you shaved (nowhere near any openings though). Deodorant helps soothe the skin.

Just remember, even most porn stars have the same problems. But they are air-brushed or touched up so it's difficult to notice.

Good luck!!! :)

I have been shaving for a very long time and I shave it all off I dont leave one hair - down there
The secret is to
1. Lather it with soap or what ever you use to shave well and allways use a sharp or new blade
2. Run the hot water tap and rins the blade after every time you have shaved down.dont be in a hurry and stand in the bath or in the shower dont let the shower water rins all the soap away untill you are finnish.
3. Shave only down and don't shave if you are feeling some kind of irretation down there (rub your fingers hard -down wards- over the area before you shave to feel if it is sensitive.
4. only the next day you can shave up and only if there is no irritation or red spots.
P.S do this for at least a month so ur body will get use to the shaving and keep it kleen and allways soaped up when shaving and avoide rubbing over it for a while after shaving it should feel as smooth as a baybes bottem ------good luck

For the irritation, you could use Vagisil cream, make sure you rinse all the soap/shaving cream off, and use a moisturizer. The best thing would be to quit shaving the area. You can get ingrown hairs, which are painful. Have you considered using a hair removal gel or lotion instead? Or just letting the hair grow back? It does serve a purpose, to keep the skin from chafing. Waxing is an option, but I'm not sure you could do it on yourself. If you did wax, you could go longer between waxings because the hair would grow back slower than with shaving.

Well sometimes that happens to me but i learned that it works best when you use clean razors all the time. It also helps to let the hair grow a bit before shaving so that you actually have something there to shave. Try not to shave everyday because its causing irritation.
