Go to Lowe's, Home Depot or any flooring store and you can pick up samples to take home or you can purchase one piece so you can see how they look with your decor, you can return the ones you purchase, keep your receipt! Now all you have to do is get the tiles you picked and decide if you are going to do it or hire someone to do it..... Have Fun

The must-be-followed rules about bathroom tiles are that they must be waterproof and durable. Proper grouting is also important to ensure durability. For a classy looking bathroom here are a couple of tips when installing tiles to your bathroom.
• Have a variation of tiles in your bathroom. Create an unexpected twist of matching colors and sizes for your tiles
• Create borders around a group of tiles or along the door to complement the tiling.
• Since more focus is put on the walls and floor add tiles to the ceiling. Use complementary colors for the ceiling for that classy finish.
• Make the shower look “less busy”. This can be done by keeping the border and the rest of the walls a fairy neutral color
• You can use grout for a better contrast. An example is using dark grout against a white tile.

Normally floor tiles are thicker than wall tiles. Because I liked the color of a wall tile & I am not hard on floors, I installed 4" square wall tiles on the floor. Lasted well over 10 years.

If I had the pleasure of needing to select anything for a house/apt, I would pick something that was easy to clean-ceramic probably, didn't require a lot of grout-scrubbing grout sucks, and was in a neutral color that wouldn't look dated in 10 years. If you're looking for floor tiles, avoid polished surfaces which can be hazardous to wet feet.

Larger tiles will make the room seem a bit bigger.

Agreed, neutral colors are safer--I've seen some hateful seafoam colors or harvest colors that look wonderful for a short time, then dated.

I looked through magazings for styles that I liked and then did my best to "copy" the look.
