He's Darrel Waltrips brother....same goes for Junior even though he is good at what he does most of his popularity comes from being Earnhardt Sr.'s son

Because he used to be in DEI. And many people liked Dale Sr. & many people like Dale Jr. & Mikey was their teammate. So, some people still like him (even though he's an idiot for leaving DEI!) He hasn't finished well since he left.
Plus, Darrel Waltrip is his brother.

Michael Waltrip has this personality that is warm and funny. People relate to him, plus let's face it DW is his brother.

Michael has always been a much better talker than driver,he also appears on many shows on the speed channel.It has to be because of his TV appearances he comes across as a good ole boy on TV but I have read that he is actually a jerk in person.Anyway I think it's because of his television shows.

he is Darrell Waltrip's BROTHER not son, I personally think that he is so popular because he won the race that Earnhardt perished in.

I often wonder why he is so popular. Frankly, I get tired of seeing him promote his own agenda in front of the camera. If they guy could drive a race car, just maybe that would be different.

I think it's his personality...he is funny...he's in the public eye often..hosting shows..doing commercials..participating in interviews and talk show..available to fans...goofy..seems to like his fans..and entertaining...EVEN THOUGH he seldom wins..
I KNOW...sometimes he's just "out there..somewhere??" but .. OVERALL...I think he's funny and has a good personality.

He is really funny when he is on camera.. Also though we have trackpass where you can hear the scanners of the drivers during the race and he has a REALLY bad mouth.. I think he has people fooled.

b/c he's got the likability factor. first, he's dw's brother so that got him some liking, and then a lot of people like his attitude, or whatever they see in his personality.. sometimes i want to beat my head against something really solid when it comes to mikey, but other times i do enjoy him.
sometimes people like driver's for more than their record.
