It gives a more accurate kick. Try kicking the ball constantly by the front of your foot - not so accurate as the side.

You kick with the side of your foot to ensure accuracy in your kick. Also kicking with the broadside of your foot exerts more force on the ball since more of your foot is in contact with the ball.

we kick with the side so we dont break any bones. if we kicked with the front we wud break our toes most likely
