its been around since the 60s and hippies. dont be annoyed, theres no point in it, i think the baggy pants thing that emulates rappers is horrid but its gone on for 20 yrs or so too, you dont have to wear it, just be true to yourself.

I have to agree with you wholeheartedly, I think they are totally tacky and if I am going to spend $50 for something new, it had better look new.
Skanky clothes have been popular off an on since the 60's "Hippie free love" movement and when I was a kid they had the whole patchwork hillbilly sort of look going along with fringed leather jackets. Another was the "Bleach accident" looking clothes, which became popular again a few years ago and happy to say, I have not seen that one for awhile.
The ripped-up skanky jeans thing started back in the 80's when grunge rock bands, like Nirvana, became popular and "trashy chic" gets revisited and revamped in one form or another every year now since then. The grunge rockers didn't dress up when they went on stage because to them it was about the music, which itself is admirable and probably why it became so popular. However, many of the bands were also into drugs and were not all that well groomed to say the least...those trashy looking clothes were not just looking that way...they WERE trashy clothes.
I guess people wear them now because they see it as "keepin' it real" when it is an idea whos time has passed and needs to be thrown out with all those grungy looking clothes.
As fashion is fickle, in a few years the tide should shift again to a more clean cut look, which all people really do look better in.

Ripped is in again? The first time the only way to get them was to have well loved/worn denims. The legs naturally wore out but I added embroidery to mine. Not that tacky machine made stuff unique one of a kind designs, I added suede too.I had a great sleeveless denim dress same there. I would never buy them why pay for something that will fall apart with out getting your full value.
Back to real jeans that cover your butt, and rips only the natural ones thank you.

Honey, you do have style. I don't understand the ripped jean look either, but hey, what can you do? I think it is a shame that you can sell ripped up jeans for so much. I mean, you can rip up a pair that you already have for free! I think a celebrity did start it, maybe Britney Spears. That seems like something she would wear. I think it also is supposed to be like a grunge type of look, like you just don't care or something.

u know i never got it either, i go to the flee market & buy my jeans cause they have those nice dark blue color & no rips!
its like the rips cost u $20 extra dollars, well heres a peice of advice to get them cheap.
get a sarraded edged knife & littly run it over the jeans were u wanna make the rip, don't press hard just glide it over the fabric, do this for about 20min!
then take a fine to moderate rough piece of sand paper to that spot & those same tear marks will apear in ur jeans!
wow $5 & 1hour of ur time to save $40-$60 dollars, wow simply amazing isn't it!

I'd rather see ripped jeans than the one that look like they are 2 sizes too big and hang down so low that their boxers hang out.....never understood that fashion statement.

You have your own style so don't wear what everybody else wears and be yourself.
