True. The more you know, the less regular people understand you. Easily, you tend to get away from the 'regular' people, and just lose contact with everyone, remaining alone with your thoughts. That will give the sorrow. You are smart, but you don't have anyone to share your knowledge or opinions with. The lack of socialization drives one to madness. It's rather a vicious circle. That might also happen when one suffers of megalomania. He thinks he's the misunderstood genius on the top of the world, when he's actually... not.

Does there have to be more grief to gain more knowledge?
That depends. It may take sorrow to learn but there are rewards when found an understanding to the sorrow.
In my msn group I said this 'The more you know the more you see; the more you see the more you grow', but not all are able to learn by their mistakes, and grow from them thus more grief by walking into more lessons to be learned.
A wise man learns by others mistakes, a fool learns from his own but a wise fool is better than the blind fool
Oh...
Ignorance is only bliss when something can't be understood, it becomes arrogance when is

The one in possession of great wisdom must face the lack of its application and the resultant destruction of those intent upon its eradication, amounting to a great loss without reason.
The one in possession of great knowledge is an outcast; for, those who must find their way through the paths of others ignorance are treated as pariahs. Added to this is the surety of events which would be prevented if ignorance was eradicated.
The wise will face stupidity; the knowledgeable, supreme ignorance.

Ya, that's really true! because when you are really intelligent, academically or in ideas of society, or you are rich with virtues, usually, many people cannot understand you because majority of them these times lack wisdom. so because of that, you are always annoyed or irritated by them, and it's you who become outcast or wrong, because today, Majority is always right, even it really isnt!!! thus, you are in sorrow.
and when you are intelligent, you question many things so you lose your peace of mind, and you usually criticize many things or people. unlike ignorant people who live each day without questioning the events and not noticing the depths of those, apparently they are always happy. thats why when you have more wisdom, you are always sad.
but im not saying that having knowledge is not a blessing for because of it, you go bad, in the sense that like i said before, you are always critisizing things....................you should just handle it well, and control yourself.
what is not true somehow in this quotation is that who doesnt want to be first in class or in career? :)

It is where you place higher value that matters in concluding that question.... If you value knowledge higher, you would drift in accomplishment... If you value social acceptance higher, ignorance is really a bliss.....
What you know also affects how you feel...
