The OILERS always have a chance but, Pronger and Pecca were brought it for the final run at making the play-offs. The core of the team is still there and come next play-off run, they'll probably pick up more players again to increase there chances.

Gotta love the laughable leafs for paying for a guy like Peca. When he wants to play, another story, but Toronto? Who plays in Toronto? The Oilers will have a spot open now for one of their young players to get some ice time. Lowe is doing a fine job. Playoffs are a long run and alot of things can go both right and wrong so as far as making the playoffs next year. No reason not to. Good group of players that will grow from last year's experience. '82 Oilers lost before winning. GO OILERS. Oh, yeah, Pronger. He could have enjoyed a great end to his career in Edmonton. His choice. I applaud who and what they recieved in return and while I hope nothing but the best for Pronger, if you don't want to be somewhere, the team is better off without you.Oilers won without Gretzky, Coffey, Fuhr. Will win again.

Edmonton just gave up all hope by not going after Peca, trading Pronger, losing one of their better defensemen in Spacek and relying on Roloson to carry a team... Good luck seeing Edmonton even close to a playoff spot next season

They didn't lose either one by choice.Pronger wanted to leave the Oilers, and Peca signed with Toronto as a free agent. He has a home in Buffalo (close to Toronto) and is from Toronto so that's where he wanted to go. Of course, losing both will hurt the team. Anyone who saw the playoffs and the impact those two players had knows that.

Never under estimate the Oilers! They trade some good players for Pronger and they are still gonna make the playoff! Mark my words!

Yeah. i'm a diehard Oilers fan. i presumed they could be making a push for the playoffs yet with out Smitty it dowsn't look like it. they could renounce Smyth interior the low season yet i'm able to imagine alot of alternative communities will favor him. Ryan Smyth is giant, his loss wiil damage the Oilers. it really is a tragic day for Oilers followers. :(

they have underestimated Peca's value,he was a major contributor down the stretch and all the way along the chase for the Cup,he'll be sorely missed,But I don't care because he's a Leaf and I'm the biggest Leaf fan out there,Go Leafs Go!!!

You can't stay in one place in pro hockey, or else you will be falling behind. Oilers management made the right call to move on in a proactive way IMHO. They'll give a good account of themselves again in the fall.
