Again, its a 30 year old truck. WTF do you think it is going to run showroom new? Time to start replacing parts chief.

It is quite common if your truck is full time 4x4 to have a wobble or binding feeling when turning. If your truck does not have manual locking hubs (you turn them in yourself at the front wheel) it is full time. This does not necessarily mean that the truck is in 4x4 all of the time but it does mean that the front differential is always engaged with the hubs so the front axles always turn right along with the front driveline. It is not actually engaged in 4x4 until you put it in gear at the transfer case from inside the cab with the stick. The axles are most likely articulated at the steering knuckles with universal joints. Since a universal joint is only designed to work smoothly up to about a 6 degree angle they can tend to bind up if turned while spinning any farther than that. This could be what you are experiencing. Why did they build such a thing? Who knows but the fact is, it's the nature of the beast. On the other hand, something could be wrong. In any case, you have a gem of a truck and don't let anyone tell you any different. Nothing a little money and do it yourself effort can't fix. The bearings are an easy diagnosis and if bad you are better off to have them changed by a mechanic. They are not easy to replace if your rig is in fact a full time.

Firstly I would check that it is full time 4wd, in 1976, most were part time, try taking it out of 4wd if you can by selecting 2wd and reversing about 10 feet, listen for a click from under the car, see if this improves the situation.

The truck is 30 years old, it will not drive like a modern car

With all the questions you're asking, you obviously bought a piece of junk. Sell it by the pound and call it a day.
