It does not seem to matter how educated one is we tend to be insensitive when it comes to others dying or suffering... we have mechanisms to justify our crimes and demonising others as though they deserve their fate.

Have you ever considered why we are so partisan? Please share your insights.

I think it's more about the political philosophies in America are shifting over time, or at least the parties' control over various parts of the spectrum. People feel threatened that the party is leaving them behind or that they party is with them & the country is leaving them behind, and in being unwilling to accept these facts they behave defensively & lash out at the other side to justify their feelings of inadequacy. I could take that into more detail, with specifics & examples, but that's the gist of what I think.

Hi, I feel the violence that is everywhere, you look, read, on TV. & in moveies, is making our society more tolerant, & more insensitive, in our everyday lives.I think it totally has a numbing effect, on people in general. You see so much of it , it makes people not care for their human fellow men. Sick as it is!!!!!!

Humans are animals and territorial by nature. What's mine is mine...and what's yours is yours. I care about MY stuff, you care about yours. This is INGRAINED in us by culture and, I would imagine, hundreds of thousands of years of genetics.

Society is a very thin veneer on a very scary animal.
